Olivia Strange is an adult romance and erotica writer from Stratford-upon-Avon. She has had several jobs over the years, including bartending, nursing, some time as a laboratory technician and latterly as a journalist and author. She loves travelling to exotic places, drinking red wine, eating dark chocolate and researching for her books. Nowadays, she feels totally fulfilled as an author of romance and erotica. We have conducted an interview with her.
Who or what inspired you to write an erotic romance about vampire hunters?
I have always been intrigued by vampires, ever since reading Dracula by Bram Stoker as a youngster. Then, of course, Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles brought vampires into the modern psyche. After that Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, then the hugely successful Twilight all had an influence on me. Vampires became moody, sex and dangerous, so when I thought about my story, it inevitably became an erotica adult romance.
Where do you research for the secret sexual and romance fantasies?
I read very widely, both fiction and non-fiction. Inevitably, in the genres of adult romance and erotica I have to delve deep, study psychology and communicate with people who are uninhibited enough to help me in my research. I have many writer friends and we 'share notes.'
Which is the most thought provoking and sensational fiction you have ever read?
I have several works that have had a great influence on me as a writer in the genre. First of all, the 18th century classic, Fanny Hill - Memoirs of a Lady of Pleasure, by John Cleland. Secondly, D.H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover. Then, Xaviera Hollander's The Happy Hooker. Finally, Erica Jong's Fanny and Fear of Flying.
Which 2 characters in your story do you love the most? To which extent do you love them?
My favourite characters are Dr Vanessa Franklin, who is really a romantic extension of myself, and Rex Talbot, who is my ideal, perfect lover! I love them both.
