G Matthews

G Matthews is an independent artist from Southern California. She brings together alternative rock with street-smart pop and irresistible rhytms, creating an unshakable foundation for her heartfelt lyrics. We have conducted an interview with her.

How did you always knew you are going to be a performer?
I didn't always know I was going to be a performer. But as a I was growing up I found it easy and enjoyable to get up and perform in front of an audience. I was never nervous about it. It was a few years ago that I decided to grab my ease and courage to perform and make it my profession.

Who inspires the lyrics for "Judge Me Not"?
When I wrote Judge Me Not, I wrote it with the intent to encourage myself to follow my heart. Everyone will always have an opinion about you and things you decide to do... So I came up with the tag line "judge me not" to be sort of like an anthem to take with me during my musical journeys.

Which is your favourite song/s? Why did you choose it as your favourite?
My favorite songs on the album have to be Chasing Happy and Pennies and Bricks. These two songs, together, sum up a large portion of life for me. Very personal and close to home.

What does 'unfettered spirit' means to you as an indie artist?
Since I've began my music career I've gain a sense of liberation and adopted a fearless persona. And I think that's a good thing to have as an indie artist. You have no restrictions on what you create ... so you go for it

What is the story behind this album?
This album has a lot of real life relatable scenarios put to song. Although truthful, I feel that all of the songs have a sense of positivity and encouragement to them. A lot of the songs are from my person experiences. And I know I'm not the only one that has dealt ... so I decided to sing it out for others who may not be as bold or simply can't find the words.
